Summer Touch

Santa Fe Youth Rugby be out at the MRC fields on Thursday nights at 6pm starting June 6th. Come out for some fun, all ages, non-contact rugby. Stay for the hot dogs!

HS Tournament!

The youth had a great showing at the NM State High School Championships this weekend. Between 10am and 11:30am, three teams from Albuquerque, four from Los Alamos and three from Santa Fe played. Two of those teams were middle school tacklers, and other 8 were non-contact teams of varying ages.

It was a great opportunity for kids to play different teams than those they’d been up against all season.

Everyone had fun and it was followed up with hotdogs afterwards.

The Celtic Festival in Albuquerque is come up this Sunday, then we transition into our summer Thursdays.

The season has begun!

We’re busy!

We’ve got kids training on Wednesday evenings at Capshaw Middle School at 5:00pm or 5:30pm depending on the age, or playing at the New Mexico School for the Deaf at 5:30pm depending on the team.

Saturday mornings we’re at the Santa Fe Municipal Recreation Complex for games between 9:30a – 11:00a.

Hope to see you there!

Registration Day

Come to the Genoveva Chavez Center this Saturday, March 16th for an painless registration process for the spring season. We’ll be there 10am to 2pm.

Thanks!

New Season approaching

The crew at SFYR is planning the upcoming season. You can sign up right here.

We expect to hold our first match March 23rd and play every Saturday through May 11th, followed by a day of rugby in Albuquerque at the Celtic Festival on Sunday, May 19th.

We’re planning an in-service training for Santa Fe Public School physical education teachers on February 15th and a registration day on Saturday, February 23rd.

We’ll see you on the pitch!

See you at 5:30 to get ready for states! Please be focused and on-time. Below is the info for Celtic on Sunday. Please fill out the attached waiver in advance as it will make the entry process smoother. One parent gets in free but the second will have to buy a $15 ticket. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Celtic Fest

IMPORTANT! READ THIS IF YOU ARE COMING TO THE CELTIC FEST!!
Dear AYRU Coaches, Volunteers, Parents and Supporters of Youth Rugby in New Mexico,
First I want to say many thanks to all the coaches, volunteers and parents who have committed to helping us with this year’s Celtic Fest Youth Rugby Tournament. We could not pull this off without you! This year is our biggest and best event yet. We have 157 kids participating in 5 brackets. It’s going to be a great day for youth rugby in New Mexico. To run a smooth day I ask that everyone print out, read, and follow carefully the attached master schedule. Highlights from the schedule for Sunday, May 20th, are:
COACHES:

8:00am – Please arrive at the main gate of Celtic Fest (at Balloon Fiesta) Park with your players.
Armbands – Volunteer Mr. Jim Sikra will be at the main gate with a bag of all armbands for each individual team. Once you receive the bag of armbands from Jim, it is each team’s responsibility to make sure all players (and one parent per player) get their armbands. Jim is only handing over the bag. Please note that all additional family members over and above the one parent receiving a complimentary armband will need to purchase entrance to the Celtic Fest grounds at the Main Gate.
8:30am Coaches Meeting – All coaches and referees are expected to meet at the main fields Admin Tent.
Code of Conduct & Waiver Form / T-shirts – Every player and coach is expected to sign the attached Code of Contact & Waiver Form to participate in the tournament. Volunteers will be at the Admin Tent accepting forms from 8:15am-9:15am. When the volunteer receives the player’s waiver, their name will be checked off on the team roster and the player will receive their tournament t-shirt. There will be extra forms at the tent though I encourage you to bring a signed form in advance to expedite things. Please try to get this done as soon as players arrive at the fields.
9:00am Players Meeting – All players and coaches expected to meet at Field #3. Be ready to show us your best team cheer!
9:15am MATCHES START! – Please check the master schedule for field and times for you teams.

VOLUNTEERS:

7:45am – All volunteers need to arrive at the Celtic Fest Main Gate (at Balloon Fiesta Park).
8:00am – Jim Sikra handing out armbands at gate.
8:15am – Forms collection, T-shirts, and AYRU store open up.
8:30am – Bracket and Referee coordination opens up.
9:00 – First Aid consultation and Ambulance Service available.

For all, and assuming we stay on schedule, we will have a lunch break at 12:15 followed by Consolation Matches at 1:15pm, and Championship Matches at 1:45pm. The Awards Ceremony will be at 2:30pm followed by clean up. We are grateful for ALL HANDS helping on clean up.
IF YOU HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS EMAIL, OR NEED SOMETHING CLARIFIED, CONTACT ME ASAP!
See you on Sunday!!
Tom

Update for last 3 weeks

MYR coaches and parents,
A few orders of business with only three weeks left. This weekend we have games as usual at the MRC pitches. We will try to to get 4 or 5 games in like last weekend with starting times at 9 (U-9 Rio Rams), 9:15 (U-11 Owls), 9:30 (U-13 Tigers). The last two or three games we will do like last week with combo teams starting as refs become available. Please try to get to the field no later than 9am for warm ups and rams should be there at 8:45am to warm up. We should be done by 11am at latest. Thanks for a fun water fight last week too!

The games on Saturday May 12th will be our final home match. We will do an awards ceremony after the final games at the picnic area. Hopefully Los Alamos will want to participate in this and give awards to their players too (we can combine an order if you let us know). I could use some parental and coaching help to organize this with maybe some hotdogs and lemonade too. Please let me know if you can volunteer. The High School Rugby Championships are starting promptly after our games so please stick around and watch. It is also very important we start on time that Saturday because of this so really try to make an effort to be on time for your match.

Our youth state championships will take place at The Celtic festival Sunday May 20th in Albuquerque. Games start at 9am. We will be paying entry fees for 3 teams. Please let us know ASAP if your child cannot make it. We would love to have you all down there. It is a great event at Balloon fiesta park which you get free entry to with your child. We also understand their are some previous commitments so do let us know ASAP.

Informal summer touch Rugby will be in conjunction with the Santa Fe High School and Men’s team. We will start June 6th and run for 8 weeks every Wednesday night at 6pm at the MRC rugby fields. Everyone is invited! We are also thinking about a one week or 4 day rugby camp for the kids in late July or early August. Please let us know if you would sign you kid up for something like this.

See you at practice tonight or tomorrow (Rams at Capshaw). It has been so much fun. Let’s keep up the momentum for these last 3 weeks!

Much thanks, Joe L.
